The International English Language Testing System more commonly known as IELTS, is a standardised test of English language proficiency for non-native English language speakers. It is jointly managed by the British Council, IDP Australia and Cambridge Assessment English and was established in 1989.

IELTS is accepted by American, Canadian, British, European, Irish, Australian, New Zealand academic institutions and by various professional organisations across the world.

There are two modules of the IELTS:

IELTS tests 4 modules: 2 hours and 45 minutes

Writing, Listening, Reading, Speaking

Writing	Two Writing Tasks	60 mins – 2 Questions
Listening	Multiple choice, Diagram labelling, Sentence Completion, Summary Completion	30 mins – 40 Questions
Reading	Multiple choice Questions, Sentence completion, Summary Completion, Matching Features, Matching Headings	60 mins – 40 Questions
Speaking	Three parts in this Section	11-14 minutes

Writing , Listening & Reading are completed in one sitting, whereas the Speaking test is taken separately on a one-to-one basis on another day.

Exam fees for 2022-2023 is Rs.15,500/-

Scoring

IELTS test is scored on a 0-9 band scale in steps of ½ a band, with each band corresponding to a specified competence level in English.There is no pass or fail. Test takers receive a score for each test component – Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. The individual scores are then averaged and rounded to produce an Overall Band Score.

Results

For a computer-delivered test, results are released between 5–7 days, and for a paper-based test, a Test Report Form is posted to test takers 13 days after their test. The scores are valid for a period of 2 years.
